Commencing on the first day of the month immediately fol- lowing the effective date of this act, any elected county officer in Macon County who is not receiving an expense allowance by law shall be entitled to an expense allowance in the amount of three hundred dollars ($300) per annum, which shall be in addition to all other compensation or salary provided by law. This expense allowance shall be payable in equal monthly install- ments from the general fund of the county. Section 2. Beginning with the expiration of the term of any incumbent elected county officer of Macon County, the annual salary for the elected coun- ty office held by that elected county offi- cer shall he increased by three hundred dollars ($300) per annum, payable in equal monthly installments from the general fund of the county and at that time, any expense allowance provided in Section 1, if applicable, shall become null and void.
